This group exhibition brings together three artists who create characters with mythical transcendence. The exuberant happiness expressed by personas in their paintings and sculptures transgress boundaries as they dance on the edge of satire, defiance, or madness. Carlos Rosales-Silva’s paintings in glass beads, crushed stones, and acrylics take on lives of their own, infused with nahual-like spirits that demand attention and ask to be fed. Shannon Alonzo’s abstracted bodies celebrate female masqueraders in carnivals, who performatively reinvent themselves as they rejoice in their Caribbean ancestries. Jiha Moon's ceramic jugs have individuated personalities infused with her unique aesthetic references to Ancient Korean traditions, pop culture, and Southern charm. The joy in all these artworks breaks down the subject/object duality and opens spaces for profound freedom.
